With the kids back in school and summer wrapping up, I thought it would be a good time to remind folks about three fun events coming up this September right here in Riverside.

On Friday, September 8th from 6:30 pm to 9 pm, RIV-Inia returns to Guthrie Park. Zydeco Voodoo will take the stage starting at 7 pm bringing their New Orleans inspired music with them. Mollie's Public House will also be there covering all your food & beverage needs. Bring a blanket, chairs, picnic basket and whatever else you might need for what should be another great family event right here in Riverside.

On Thursday, September 21st, Riverside Parks & Recreation is hosting their annual Touch-A-Truck event for the kids. Here are the details courtesy of the Parks & Recreation Facebook page: 
​Animal Farm will be our musical entertainment! Most children are simply fascinated with all things motorized! Now’s their chance to explore the vehicles that excite their senses! Come make the lights flash, honk the horn, sound the siren and get uncover the mysteries of BIG vehicles at Touch-A-Truck! Don't miss out!

Who: All Riverside Residents
(Children must be accompanied by an adult.)
When: 4:00 - 6:00 pm Vehicle Display
5:00 - 6:00 pm Concert - Animal Farm
Thursday, September 21
Where: Centennial Plaza
Fee: FREE!
We've attended this event the past few years and it's been great. Kids really enjoy the music and the chance to test out all the big trucks for themselves.

On Saturday, September 30th, starting at 4 pm, the Hop Stop Craft Beer Fest returns to the Riverside Train Station. This annual event is hosted by Riverside Foods & the Fredrick Law Olmsted Society (FLOS). Here are all the details courtesy of the Hop Stop Craft Beer Fest 2017 Facebook page:
​Riverside Foods and the Olmsted Society are once again partnering to bring you the Hop Stop craft beer festival. Sample offerings from micro-local craft brewers such as Belly up brewing, BrickStone Brewery,BuckleDown Brewing, Dovetail Brewery, Exit Strategy Brewing Company,Flapjack Brewery, Forbidden Root, Goose Island, Hailstorm Brewing Co.,Lake Effect Brewing Company LLC, Noon Whistle Brewing, One Trick Pony Brewery, Pollyanna Brewing Company, Pipeworks, RIGHT BEE Cider, Safehouse Brewing, Whiner Beer Company, and Riverside's own Quincy Street Distillery, among others, Saturday, September 30, 2017, 4 to 7 pm at the Riverside Train Station, Riverside, IL. The Metra drops you at the door. Food from Sawmilly and Mollie's Public House (food available for purchase separately), and the live music of HopsLager and Dr. Don and the Boogie Monsters round out a wonderful outdoor family friendly setting in the arboretum Riverside, IL. 

Special this year just for the kids! The Riverside Arts Center + Freeark Gallery (RAC) will provide art classes from 4 pm to 6:30 pm for kids aged 5 and above with a $5 donation. Classes are based on the works or Dali, Warhol, and Pollock, at their nearby facility. Parents need to drop off and pick up kids at the Riverside Arts Center, 32 East Quincy Street. Craft beer and childcare with a flare! Enter the code of HOPSTOP at the Riverside Arts Center website for the children's HopStop modern art classes. Commemorative tasting glass is provided with each ticket price and this will be a zero waste event. Thanks to Flood Brothers for sponsoring zero waste efforts. Proceeds from the event go to the Olmsted Society in preserving and promoting Frederick Law Olmsted's vision and fostering a sustainable future. See www.olmstedsociety.org for more information on this nearly 50 year old non-profit organization and its good works.
Make sure you get your tickets here as this event is usually sold out well in advance. It's great to see local businesses & organizations team up to put on this event. Kudos to the Riverside Arts Center for offering classes for the kids to help make Hop Stop a true family affair.
